HI, I have a late 2005 G5 2.3Ghz Dual Core PowerMac with 4.5Gb RAM and the stock NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics card
I am wondering if it would be worthwhile upgrading my graphics card for use with my 30"AppleLCD that i use for Photoshop and Aperture and Final Cut. I movie etc.?
can i gain appreciable rendering speed or quality of my images?
thanks :)

It's been a while since I looked at gfx-cards, so I don't recall spec's on the GeForce 6600. In general, though, *most* of the "stock" cards use system RAM to do their thing, and the higher-end cards have dedicated onboard video-RAM. You should see a decent speed-up if you get a card with fast on-board vRAM... say, 256MB or more...?
Also, look at recommendations as to what are "minimum" and "ideal" config's for Photoshop, Aperture, and the like.

Thu, November 13, 2008 - 6:24 PMThe new applications even CS4 are beginning to really access the graphics card. NVIDIA Has some kick ass cards and if you have the money it not only speeds up your system but it makes life stream soooo much nicer !!
