Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Fri, October 17, 2008 - 10:35 PMI like Lightroom, but you may want to upgrade to Photoshop CS4 instead.
New features in Photoshop CS4 & the new Camera Raw are very similar to Lightroom.

Sun, October 19, 2008 - 8:39 AMLightroom. I used to use photoshop a lot, before that paint shop pro. But lightroom does 90% of what I want to do in terms of "developing" my photos and now I only go into photoshop on rare occasions or if I need to combine images and do manipulations.
It's not fully mature yet, but as a combination organizing and processing tool, it's great.

Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Sun, February 1, 2009 - 10:59 AMNo. I like Lightroom and CS4 used together. I use lightroom for going through all sets of images and doing the first editing like contrast, levels, etc. Then I take it into CS4 for smaller changes like touch ups and removal of pimples.
The person above who said CS4 has a lot of camera raw stuff that lightroom does is correct, but they aren't as easy to use and I've noticed discrepancies in color changing. Plus the copy and paste levels/settings in Lightroom really makes it worth it. You don't have to go through image by image and change the raw settings over and over. -

Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Sun, February 1, 2009 - 12:44 PMLightroom's Develop module is non-destructive. It just records the changes to metadata - your original file always stays original which is a big difference compared to work done in PS. PS is still necessary for more exotic work that LR can't do but I'm guessing with future LR updates that will change -

Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Sun, February 1, 2009 - 4:46 PMI'm still getting used to the LR2/PS CS4 combination, but so far find the round trip functionality from Lightroom into Photoshop and back to be very usable. Being able to quickly apply metadata, general image corrections, and other pre-processing to large numbers of images is invaluable, but like others, after sorting through images to find the winners, quickly turn to Photoshop for fine work.
One thing about Photoshop (feel free to break this out into a new discussion): Has anyone found CS4 to be glitchy on redraw, and that brushes and tools are often rendered as incomplete semicircles or arcs when used at large sizes? Also, I've seen the menu bar redraw with lines and other defects. I've seen this behavior on four PCs now. Last I looked there was a bit of talk on various forums about these issues, but no satisfying solution. Apparently the problem is with some Nvidia video cards, but so far updating drivers hasn't solved the problems for me (though others have reported success).

Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Sun, April 12, 2009 - 7:27 AMTwo months after my post and the brush redraw problem is still present on two machines with Nvidia cards. Adobe has a note about the problems here www.adobe.com/go/kb407708, but none of the suggestions have worked–sitll waiting for the magic updated drivers.
I'm building a new machine next month and may give a Radeon card a try. -

Re: Lightroom or Aperture.....??
Sat, April 25, 2009 - 9:16 PMNvidia updated drivers for GeForce series cards and I finally got rid of the arc-segmented brushes on my home machine. I'll be trying an update to a machine at work first thing Monday.
