So according to the book im reading about my Canon XSi- when i "File...Open" a RAW image file in PS, Adobe Camera RAW (? that name right?) should come up....
It seems like it does - the opening 'name screen' title box comes up- but the menu bar never changes, and it just flips back to PS when i click on anything...
Adobe Camera RAW or whatever never comes completely on or whatever it looks like......
Any suggestions...? I have PS 8.0....
I shot a bunch of portrait shots in RAW (semi-by accident) in sucky light- was thinking it would be good to post-production them better in RAW form....
Are the sliders and controls in RAW in PS just like the PS Levels/Shadow:Highlight/Brightness:Contrast...?
BTW- bought the upgrade thinking i could just put it on the copy i have ( which i got from an old job)- worked on the copy of Illustr i got....
But it wont take the registration # from the copy i have...
Any crafty suggestions...?

Thu, May 14, 2009 - 4:08 PMI have a book from Peachpit Press (www.peachpit.com) called Real World Camera Raw with Photoshop CS that is really helpful in figuring out how to work with both apps. I highly recommend it. They have one for PS CS2 also. -

Thu, May 14, 2009 - 8:37 PMI'll second that. Lightroom treats raw, jpg, tiff, whatever all the same in terms of what you can do to the image. Of course, with a raw original, you have more mileage than you do with a jpg. For example, the other day I shot a bunch of images outdoors and forgot that I'd set the white balance to tungsten. With a jpg, even though lightroom has a drop down to change the white balance, there would have been considerable detail loss doing that. With the raw file, however, the shift in white balance didn't lose any detail at all. -

Thu, May 21, 2009 - 2:14 PMThe reason your files aren't opening probably is that your file format is newer than the camera raw for CS so it doesn't handle it. You can either update your raw or use another program to render your raw settings. Older raw handled by CS was not soo great anyways so if it comes down to a purchase of new software Lightroom is a good way to go for sure. -

Then it should open fine no matter what camera you have. The latest is 5.3
