I want to recommend a simple editing program for a Microsoft user friend. Is there a version of Preview for MS available?

There is a version for Windows. I'm assuming you mean Windows when you say Microsoft. As far as I know, you can't edit things in the Preview program that comes with Macs. -

Tue, March 24, 2009 - 6:49 PMIf you open a jpeg in Preview, and under Tools, pull down Image Correction, you will find some very useful editing tools. Those few solve most of my gaffs of light, color, and sharpness. Rarely, I enjoy playing with the sepiatone.

Wed, March 25, 2009 - 9:43 AMNeat, I didn't know that! I'm a mostly PC person and my work computers have always had PS, so I rarely use Preview for anything other than a default image viewer. Do try out Gimp, though. I used it for a few months when I was traveling with my new laptop. It's full functional, open source and free. There are some neat filters I like better than PS. You can even customize the keyboard shortcuts to be the same as PS, which is very handy for people like me who almost always use keyboard shortcuts to pull up an effect or tool.
