brush settings question

topic posted Mon, October 8, 2007 - 12:54 PM by  alan
I would like to set up my brushes so that the circle brush cursor matches the exact area affected by the paint. I currently have my brush hardness at 100% and am using the standard cursor setting for brushes (basic circle). Unfortunately, this seems to affect only the center area within the circle cursor for the brush, the outer edges of the circle cursor are not laying down paint.

Its probably something simple one of you Photoshop geniuses out there can answer. Thanks in advance. I'm grateful for any advice you may have. This is slowly driving me crazy.

Try checking your Preferences > Display and Cursors. Under Painting Cursors, see if you have Normal Brush Tip selected. Brush hardness will not change a soft-edged brush, so look carefully at the brush type you are using. If the edges are a soft grey, it will be a soft-edged line.

Thanks, Buck, for replying. Unfortunately, I have done the things you've suggested.

The edges of the line made are hard, just not filling the entire brush area, only the center.

I think you may be using a tablet which is pressure sensitive in which case the light you apply the pen to the tablet the smaller the brush becomes even if your maximum size is the size you are seeing. Try toggling off your pressure sensitivity .

Byron, I think you nailed it. I have been using a new tablet, I had to give my previous one back to a previous employer when I left the job. With this new tablet, I have to press down much harder to really use the complete brush area.

Such a simple thing, yet somehow I overlooked it. Glad you were able to help. Thanks so much.
