Layer mask help

topic posted Mon, March 31, 2008 - 8:50 PM by  Olivia
I'm trying to add a Levels adjustment layer that I can paint in the levels. The problem is that I either make a mask that's white and I can paint with black to reveal underneath, or I Option click and it makes a vector mask. I want to pain in the Levels adjustment with white. I'm missing something simple - blonde moment. Thanks for help.

Just switch your brush to white.

      That's not it.

I'm trying to add a layer with a Levels Adjustment that I can paint on selectively. My masks are always white; Option clicking isn't giving me the black mask that I can paint through with white to apply the levels adjustment. Sorry if this isn't clear - I'm over tired and have done this many times before in other PS versions and it's not happening. Deadline tomorrow.

The link in the next post didn't help. The :evels thing is different.

Oh, OK. Just fill the layer mask with black then start painting with white.

That doesn't do what I needed.

I ended up going into Quick Mask mode, painting the mask, back out of Quick Mask, then inverting the selection, then adding the adjustment layer as a clipping mask.

Not the cleanest or most flexible way, but it go me through. I still can't remember the "proper way".

          Thanks,
          Olivia
